Course Description

This course is designed to provide teachers with the knowledge and tools necessary to address violence in schools effectively. Participants will begin by exploring the concept of bullying and its various forms, including physical, verbal, social, and cyberbullying. Through engaging discussions, they will gain insights into the psychological and emotional impacts of bullying on victims, emphasizing the importance of empathy and compassion in addressing such challenges.

The course will also highlight the roles of observers, bullies, and the broader school community in fostering a safe environment. Teachers will learn constructive intervention techniques and practical bullying prevention methods, including the development of intervention plans tailored to their specific school contexts.

By the end of the course, participants will have a clear understanding of school violence and its implications. They will be equipped with actionable steps to create a safe and respectful school environment. Furthermore, teachers will leave with a concrete action plan and a supportive network to sustain efforts in reducing violence and promoting well-being within their schools.

Introduction to the concept of bullying and school violence.

    • Information about school violence, bullying, statistics and its impact on victims.
    • Group activity: Creation of a “types of bullying notebook” in which teachers write examples and illustrations for each type.
    • Making posters and posters on the importance of reducing bullying in WordArt.

Impact of bullying

    • Case studies: Analysis of real-life situations illustrating the impact of bullying.
    • Small group discussions: How victims feel and how teachers should react when they observe bullying.
    • Personal diary: Teachers can write about their feelings about bullying, both as victims and as observers.
    • Mind map method to include the psychological and emotional effects of bullying on victims.

Compassion and empathy

    • Drama role-playing: simulated bullying scenarios in which participants can learn to intervene positively.
    • Discussion on empathy: What does it mean to be empathic? How does empathy help us to combat bullying?
    • Drama method: Group activities that promote collaboration and empathy.

Prevention and intervention strategies

    • Brainstorming method: What can we do to prevent bullying at school?
    • Develop a comprehensive action plan tailored to participants’ specific school contexts
    • Share ideas and develop collaboration networks among participants

Promoting a respectful environment

  • Define responsibility: What can each of us do to create a positive school environment?
  • Thinking Hats Method: Teachers will make the 6 cardboard hats and each group will present a poster on the topic of bullying from the perspective of the hat they wear.
  • Final Evaluation and Certification

Evaluation

    • Final questionnaire to assess learning and perceptions about bullying as well as feedback on the activities.
