Teacher Burnout & Stress Management

Course Description“Preventing Teacher Burnout is an Erasmus+ Ka1 course designed to help educators recognize the signs of burnout and develop practical strategies to manage stress and increase job satisfaction. The course explores the complex relationship between occupational stress and burnout and provides participants with an understanding of the factors that contribute to burnout, including workload, job demands, and interpersonal dynamics.

Through a combination of research-based strategies and practical tools, participants will learn how to identify and manage stress triggers, cultivate resilience, and establish healthy habits that promote work-life balance. They will also have the opportunity to reflect on their own experiences and explore strategies to prevent burnout and increase job satisfaction.

At the end of this course, teachers will have gained valuable insights and practical tools to help them manage occupational stress and prevent burnout, ultimately enabling them to be more effective and engaged educators.

Methodologies Of The CourseThe course “Preventing Teacher Burnout employs a variety of methodologies to engage participants and facilitate their learning.

1. Lectures: Participants will receive lectures that cover the theory, research, and practical strategies related to occupational stress and burnout prevention.

2. Case studies: Participants will be presented with case studies of teachers who have experienced burnout, and will be asked to reflect on the factors that led to their burnout and the strategies that could have prevented it.

3. Interactive discussions: Participants will engage in interactive discussions to share their experiences and insights related to stress and burnout prevention.

4. Reflection and self-assessment: Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own experiences and assess their own levels of stress and burnout. This will help them identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for preventing burnout.

5. Practical exercises and activities: Participants will be given practical exercises and activities that will help them develop stress management skills, promote self-care, and cultivate resilience.

Overall, the course methodology is designed to be interactive and engaging, allowing participants to reflect on their own experiences, learn from others, and develop practical strategies to manage stress and prevent burnout.

Upon completing the course, participants will be able to:

Day 1
  • Introduction to the course and its goals
  • Understanding the concept of occupational stress and its impact on teachers
  • Identifying personal and professional factors that contribute to burnout
  • Exploring the latest research on occupational stress and psychological burnout
  • Introduction to stress management techniques, including the importance of recognizing stress symptoms early and understanding the physiological and psychological effects of stress.
Day 2
  • Mindfulness techniques for managing stress
  • Relaxation and stress reduction strategies for teachers
  • Cognitive-behavioural strategies for preventing burnout
  • Developing a personalized self-care plan for managing stress
  • Hands-on practice of mindfulness meditation and breathing exercises, along with guided imagery and progressive muscle relaxation to reduce stress
Day 3
  • Strategies for setting and maintaining healthy boundaries in personal and professional life
  • Identifying sources of occupational stress unique to individual teaching contexts
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to promote a supportive work environment
  • Role-playing exercises to practice setting boundaries and assertive communication.
Day 4
  • Promoting a positive school culture that values teacher well-being and job satisfaction
  • Identifying and utilizing available resources to support mental and emotional well-being
  • Enhancing teaching skills and effectiveness through self-awareness and reflection
  • Techniques for self-reflection and mindfulness to enhance emotional resilience
Day 5
  • Reviewing and reflecting on course content and learning outcomes
  • Building a network of support and collaboration with other teachers in the course
  • Developing an action plan for continued self-care and stress management beyond the course
  • Creating a long-term stress management plan, including strategies for maintaining work-life balance, continuous self-care practices, and setting realistic goals for personal and professional growth.

Course FeeThe course fee is 80 Euros per participant per day.
